To Learn and Grow Surrounded by God's Love ...
Ladybug Newsletter: February 2005 Dear Parents, Here we are again finishing another fun and exciting unit! The children really had a great time learning and talking about transportation. We learned that there are different ways of getting from one place to another.

The children learned that we don't just use cars for transportation, we also use airplanes, trains, buses, bicycles and motorcycles. Ajaysha told her mom that they would have to take a bus or train to school from now on!
Valentine’s Day and Rodeo Day also kept the children busy. They got very creative as they made valentines for their parents and truly enjoyed exchanging cards with classmates. We had some very cute little cowboys and cowgirls during Rodeo Week and they had an awesome time playing rodeo games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Cowboy Bean Bag Toss and riding a pretend pony. Some of the books we read this month were David and Jonathan, The Train Story, The Wheels on the Bus, The Little Engine That Could, and You Can Name 100 Cars. Thank you to our Chapel Leaders: John Cheek, Andy Ross, Rachel Brinker and Lorrie LeFevers. Also a big thank you to our Library Readers: Deanne Kinas, Tony Hollars and Lisa Adams. For our March Unit we will be learning about Easter and gardening. Love, Ms. Blanca, Ms. Michele & Ms. Lisa Enrichment News Creative Cooking: We've been cooking up a storm this month! The children made pancakes in the shape of the letters of their names; they got to eat the first try. They also had fun shaping pretzels and baking those. Another fun project was pizzas that we decorated with different fun items like tomato, cheese and pepperoni! Spanish: The children really seem to be having fun with their Spanish. We reinforce the phrases and words we have learned with games and flash cards. They also enjoy hearing stories in Spanish and this helps them pick out the words they know and they try to comprehend the stories. Adios! Puppetry in Literature: In Puppetry and Literature this month we really enjoyed ourselves! We read Clara the Cow and Fluff the Kitten. Both stories are from a book called The Funny Farm. We made cows and kittens using paper bags, toilet paper rolls, pipe cleaners, squiggly eyes and paint. The children had a blast taking turns putting on puppet shows for each other. P.E.: Wow! P.E. has been a challenge, but it has also been loads of fun! We always start class with warmup stretching and 1 or 2 laps of running. We have incorporated many games to enrich the large motor skills. This past month we have played T-ball, croquet, dodgeball, soccer, and even Red Rover (a classic!) We have also done some fun relay games, and one of the favorites is running! Yes, just plain old running! It is great to see all of them growing, learning and improving their skills. Art: In Art, we continue to explore color, shape and form. This month the children created a beautiful "Watercolor Surprise" using white glue and watercolors. Have you ever used masking tape and crayons to create "Masking Tape Magic"? Our last project was creating a "Photo Collage" using scraps of photographs cut into different shapes and sizes. The children really enjoyed working on their picture compositions, which were quite impressive. We are having a great time in Art. Thank you for sharing your children with me. Music & Movement: We have been very busy this month exploring a range of music. One day we listened to many types of music. Then we discussed how the music made us feel ... happy, sad, playful, angry or joyful. With the same music we took paint and expressed the beat of the music with color and brush strokes. It was a very interesting class. The last two weeks of music movement we have been learning to recognize different instruments' sounds and learning how to mimic beats and rhythms. It has taken some time, but we are learning to use instruments to communicate feeling and imitation. Our school had a special treat this month as well. We had Keri Sutter with Surgite visit our school and show us group movements to music about God's love. She chose this subject because for Valentine's Day we talked a lot about love and God’s love for us!
