Teachers will provide opportunities for children that include using both small motor skills (cutting with primary scissors, coloring with chubby crayons, gluing, etc.) and large motor skills (running, jumping, kicking balls and riding tricycles). Additional activities will involve all of the senses – seeing, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting. Children will be encouraged to use spoons or forks appropriately during snack times. While providing a sense of classroom security, the teachers will observe student behavior with understanding and patience. Children will be given the opportunity to become more independent by accepting tasks such as snack helper or flag holder. Teachers will provide affection and support and will plan experiences to help alleviate children's fears. They will help children to develop positive self-esteem, independence, personal responsibility, and self-expression. Children will enjoy both individual play – the primary focus of two and a half year olds – as well as group activities and opportunities to interact with their peers. Teachers will introduce the concept of sharing with others, realizing that this sometimes does not come easily when favorite toys/items are involved. Each day opportunities will be provided for children to use a variety of materials such as pictures, puppets, books, and objects to increase their growing vocabulary. Through activities such as Show and Tell, children will have occasion to talk, practicing their new words and phrasing, as well as listening to each other and their teachers. Teacher-planned activities will be short and varied with the flexibility to move when children lose interest. Colors, numbers, and days of the week will be introduced using repetition and the incorporation of the concepts in other activities for reinforcement. Children will experience Jesus' love for them through the kindness and care shown them in the classroom. The inclusion of simple Bible stories and phrases, as well as songs such as "Jesus Loves Me" and "Jesus Loves the Little Children," will be used to further reinforce the concept.
