Joy to the Heart! - January 13, 2006

Read Psalm 19.

Dear friends,

Many Christmases ago, I asked my parents for a Bible - you know, mainly to impress them and essentially score some much needed points as a teenager.

But I still have that old, brown, leather-clad King James Version Bible, with my parents' names etched within. I remember how long it took me to finally get through it. I remember how confused I was over passages that didn't quite make sense. I remember how that was when I learned that I could read it best if I made it a daily habit.

But best of all, I hold that old Bible in my hands, and I treasure how, for me, reading it for the first time was how God came alive in my heart. I felt the electricity flowing through me, that God was speaking to me, ... ME!

Psalm 19 declares that "the precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart."
