This Is My House! - January 6, 2006

Read Luke 3:7-20.

Dear friends,

A door-to-door salesman approached a nice home where two kids were playing in the front yard. He asked them if either of their parents were home.

"Yeah, they're both home."

The salesman rang the bell and waited. He rang again. Still, no one answered the door.

"Why won't they come to the door?" he asked the kids.

"This isn't our house," said one.

Have you ever thought about how resolutions are like the house and furnishings we choose to live with?

In Luke 3:7-20 we see John the Baptizer working his address; he was a man who lived his resolutions - boldly!

Check out these examples of Jonathan Edwards' resolutions, compiled from his writings and sermons (Works of Jonathan Edwards, Vol. 1):

  • "Let there be something of benevolence in all that I speak."

  • "Resolved, never to do anything out of revenge."

  • "Resolved, to ask myself, at the end of every day, week, month, and year, wherein I could possibly, in any respect, have done better."

  • "Resolved, that I will do whatsoever I think to be most to the glory of God, and my own good, profit, and pleasure, in the whole of my duration; without any consideration of the time, whether now, or never so many myriads of ages hence."

So - what kind of a house are you intentionally building these days? Let's at least begin to resolve that we'll make our resolutions with God!

God's blessings to you this day!
