What Are You Tied To? - November 4, 2005

Read John 15:1-8.

Dear friends,

Two guys come upon a big, deep hole in the woods. "Wow, that looks deep," commented the one. "Sure does," says the other.

And so they begin testing the hole's depth by throwing a few rocks in. No sound comes back. Then they throw in some bigger rocks - nothing comes back.

At last, and with some determination, the one man points out a large railroad tie, off some distance. They both manage to pick it up and toss it into the hole. Again, not a sound of it falling returns to their ears, but suddenly, and seemingly from out of nowhere, comes a goat, running like the wind. The goat rushes right at the two men, then goes right past them as fast as its legs will carry it. Then, it leaps up into the air, and jumps into the hole.

The two men are astonished at what they've just seen. A farmer appears from out of the woods and asks the men if they've seen his goat. "You bet we did! Craziest thing we ever seen. It came running like crazy and just jumped into this hole!"

"Nah," says the farmer. "That couldn't have been my goat. My goat was chained to a railroad tie."

Read John 15:1-8. Jesus is trying to tell us that if we tie our life to his - we find life, strength and renewal for living. This is how we develop a fruitful life. He is the main vine, and we are invited to live as his branches. That's a sure formula for health and renewal, that will pull you up ... not down a hole.

God's blessings to you this day!
