Completing the Jigsaw - August 19, 2005

Read Matthew 6.

Dear friends,

Someone once observed: "Life's like a jigsaw - you get the straight bits but there's something missing in the middle."

Now, I'll admit, I have trouble with jigsaw puzzles - I don't have either the patience or the persistence to do a puzzle all the way through, on my own. But usually I begin, as most do, by putting the edges together, those pieces with the straight lines. Then you work your way inside...

Here's my theory for the day: Lot's of people have empty places inside the picture, uncompleted scenes which can only be filled in by God.

Invite him in. Ask God to come and direct you ... take the time and patience to begin praying in the basic ways (the pieces with the edges) but then continue in the silence to lift your life to God, asking him to illumine and fill you with his peace, presence and love.

Jesus once said, "This then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name...'" (Matthew 6).

God's blessings to you this day!
