How to Hit Home Runs! - July 15, 2005

Read 1 Timothy 6:11-16.

Dear friends,

I heard someone once say that "Baseball is a great sport. It's the only game you can enjoy while napping."

Well, I'm here to say that I love watching baseball! Maybe that is because I like to nap while watching it. But there are many insights that guide us in life which are seen in baseball - such as:

  • If you only hit the ball three times out of ten, you’re really good!
  • There are other ways to get on base besides having to hit it yourself!
  • If you hit it far enough, you can bring everyone home.
  • Seventh inning stretch, ‘nuff said!

In 1 Timothy 6:11-16, we see some great baseline coaching from Paul to us. Hang in there. Don't give up. Hold on and tag up until you see Jesus coming at the last call. Stay in there and fight the good fight; keep your eye on the ball and swing again, even if you have a strike or two against you.

Okay - well that's a loose baseball paraphrase of the scripture. But remember, the way to hit a home run with God is to stay in the game, and not quit when it comes to living as his disciple and child.

Crack! "And she's outta here!!"

God's blessings to you this day!
