What Superhero Would You Be?! - May 27, 2005

Read James 3:13-18.

Dear friends,

On NPR's program, This American Life, John Hodgman conducted an informal survey asking the fun question: "Which is better? The power of flight, or the power of invisibility?"

The answers he received surprised him - not for which superhero power people chose, but how all the respondents were self-serving in their answers. No one picked either superhero power for the purpose of helping others, or fighting crime, or making the world a better place! Nobody mentioned they would use their power to work for peace, whether it be personal, locally, or worldwide.

Nobody interviewed on This American Life took responsibility for others less fortunate than themselves. No one mentioned they would like to use their power for others.

Want to develop a superhero power in your life today? Start by reading James 3:13-18. The Bible talks about the gift of wisdom as that which is used to help others - that which leads to being merciful, helpful, considerate and kind.

Did you know that with God's help you could be a superhero to someone else today? But it begins by realizing it's not about YOU - it's about you reaching out to others.

God's blessings to you this day!
