Pastor's Corner Actions Speak Louder! - May 6, 2005 Read Mark 5:21-43. Dear friends, Body language and gestures speak volumes, don't they? In the church we have the "laying on of hands" as a gesture of consecration. We talk of "throwing down the gauntlet" as a bold statement of challenge. |

Ever "cross your fingers" for good luck? Did you know that comes from an ancient habit of pleading for God's help? The crossed fingers in ancient times was a more secretive way of crossing oneself, when you were facing enemies. A Christian in the midst of persecution could call upon God by making the sign of the cross with his fingers. It was a way of asking for God's help using body language. In Mark 5:21-43, we see Jesus healing a woman on the way to healing a little girl. Powerful and moving, the heart of God's compassionate care is clearly seen in the actions of Jesus, God's Son. What kind of body language and gestures will you be making today? And how will others see the hope of God through you? How about your church? What are the actions and programs of your church saying about why you are really doing what you are really doing? Let's not just cross our fingers. Let's demonstrate conspicuous compassion today! God's blessings to you this day! Andy Ross
