Pastor's Corner Getting Some Peace! - April 15, 2005 Read John 14:23-29. Dear friends, I remember a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon strip where the little guy, Calvin, came out into the living room where his mother was sitting. He was wearing a large space helmet, a flowing cape that went to the floor, and in one hand was a flashlight, and a baseball bat in the other. His mom asked, "What's up today?" |

"Nothing so far." "So far?" his mom asked. "Well, you never know - something could happen today." In the last frame, his mother turns to the reader and says, "I need a suit like that!" In John 14:23-29, Jesus talks about his gift to us of the Holy Spirit, who will, among other things, give us a deep sense of abiding peace. Because of this gift within us of God's abiding presence and Spirit, we are told to not be troubled; to not be afraid. This is a peace you don't have to work for. This is a peace you surrender to, and joyfully accept as a gift! The best peace we can experience is the deep knowledge that our heavenly Father loves us, and wants to be "at home" with us. It's a wonderful gift to ponder and reclaim today, because none of us live in a stress-free zone! But if you still want to wear the space helmet, it's okay with me! God's blessings to you this day!
