A message from Pastor Andy Ross...

The Greatest of These! - October 22, 2004

Read 1 Corinthians 13.

Dear friends,

I’ll never forget how I was praised by my other youth leaders that one night years ago. They pointed out how, as a bold, young youth pastor, I exhibited such patience and gentle restraint with the rowdy kids in our youth group. With positive affirmation, they inquired how they could learn such patience and gentleness in caring for out-of-control teens and showing Christ-like love.

Of course, I was swelling with pride in being complimented so. And I graciously gave some "pointers" on how to be more godly, more loving.

Then I went home that night, and lost my temper with my own kids.

And it hit me like a stiff whack on the head. Am I good at being loving -  for show? for work? for other’s kids, but not my own? God preached a sermon to me that night about the danger of pride ... and the critical importance to be loving through and through ... about the importance of 1 Corinthians 13 - that love is the greatest thing of all.

Well, since then, I've blown it some more. But I'm not going to quit in asking God to make me a more loving husband, dad, friend, pastor and human being each day.   How about you?
